New IMI-101 compatible with all 6 Volt VW Type 1 Sedan transaxles, Type 2 3-rib transaxles and Type 2 5-rib transaxles. The starter is 12v, but is only compatible with the 109 tooth 6-volt flywheel.

This IMI-105 is compatible with all 6 Volt 109-tooth flywheel VW Type 1 Sedan transaxles, Type 2 3-rib transaxles and Type 2 5-rib transaxles. The starter runs off 12 volts, but has a larger pinion gear to mate to the earlier style 6 volt 109-tooth flywheels. If you've converted an early 6-volt Beetle, Buggy, or Bus to 12 volts and are looking to replace the starter, this is for you.
IMI starters are an excellent option for performance VW engines in street, race and off road applications.
Get the right starter: This fits 2-3/4 inch bell housing flange to starter flange distance. Measure if you are not sure. If you have a VW Type 1 IRS, Swing Axle, bus 3-rib or bus 5-rib you need an IMI-101/105. If you have a 6-rib 091 bus transmission you need an IMI-104 due to the different pinion depth.
