Have excess shifter play, trouble shifting, or a sloppy gear shifter?

Check your shift bushing underneath the shifter, and the shift coupler back by the transmission for wear or excess play. The shifter bushing and shift coupler bushings are wear items and are often the culprit of sloppy shifting or popping out of gear.
