We have two steering box versions available. This is the cheaper of the two options, and these cheaper boxes are known to have more lateral play. Both available steering boxes are made in Brazil. For the highest quality steering box with double bushings search: EUR-113415061C
Ampri brand steering box made in Brazil for 1955-77 Stadnard Type 1 Beetle, Karmanna Ghia, and Type 3. Does NOT fit Super Beetle. Accepts late style 24mm small pitman arm and fits all VW Type 1 beams. If you are fitting this to a 1961 and earlier car, you will need a new 24mm pitman arm. Contact us for the correct arm for your application.
Made in Brazil. This is the cheaper steering box option with the single bushing.
Tech Tip: These steering boxes may need adjustment once installed. They should be adjusted to snug on-center and will be looser towards full left and right lock - that is how all VW style steering gear boxes are made to operate. Brand new steering boxes always have a break-in period of a couple hundred miles, and will need a final adjustment after break in is complete.
Still have loose steering after install and break-in? The most common loose steering culprits are steering coupler (aka rag joint), loose pitman arm, and worn tie rod ends. Check all these components to locate the loose steering culprit.
Fits models: 1950-77 Standard Beetle/Bug 1956-74 Karmann Ghia 1963-73 Type 3 Fastback, Notchback, Squareback 1973-74 Thing Will not fit any Super Beetle
